or make it SS, use the smaller cog on the front and get a SS kit or bmx freewheel on the back, may need a half link or 2 in the chain to get the right tension

apart from the BB hight it pretty much rides like a track bike, its great!

the Peugeot carbolite frames are great, build solid and the goemtry is pretty good, building one my self but semi-restoring as a road bike instead, raleighs also good, my friend has one, got it for £30, then in total spent £120, lucky he got it so cheap though(thanks to me
)

yeah if you can find a good old road frame they can be just as good, just take more work, my guerciotti is great, tight geometry like a track bike but just has a lower BB which can be annoying

theres some one on lfgss.com who just sells frames, no idea how he gets so many but hes usually selling old road frames for like £40
